Numbskull
BACKGROUND
Numbskull 2.0 is the new generation of a successful board game of the same name originally developed to foster SAT test-taking skills. The information was presented in a game format, using pop-culture to make learning fun. Test prep no longer meant phonebook thick review texts or $1,000 prep classes. Numbskull was a way to level the playing field. Students of any income could build their skills in an inexpensive manner. Numbskull was awarded the 2002 Parent’s Choice Award.
The growth and “free”-dom of social media became the perfect avenue for the new Numbskull. The ability to present interactive educational content via Facebook and other social media outlets is just what our educational system needs.
THE APPLICATION
Numbskull 2.0 is a Facebook application where:
- Students can access subjects, like SAT or AP and quiz themselves on our questions. Each quiz is multiple choice and may include images, charts or graphs. Students are able to see taken quizzes and review at any point.
- Students can create their own subjects. So, if Johnny Student is taking an AP Spanish Class at All American High School, he can create his own quizzes from his notes or he can join up with his classmates to create a league where they create and share quizzes, customized for their class, and compete against each other.
- Teachers can set up leagues for their students to compete or create quizzes for students to review.
- Students are awarded points for creating questions and taking quizzes.
The key element of Numbskull 2.0 is that it fits any student’s lifestyle. It allows students to react to content that has been created for them or proactively create questions that follows their educational path.
PROMOTION
Perhaps the greatest payoff for students could be scholarships for those who accrue the most points through Numbskull. Imagine receiving free tuition just for spending more time on Facebook!
